2021 Heisman Trophy Winner Bryce YoungOn December 11, 2021 the Downtown Athletic Club presented the Heisman Trophy Ceremony from New York City, New York, after hosting the 2020 Heisman Trophy Ceremony remotely due to Covid-19. The Finalist were selected after nearly 900 Heisman voting ballots were turned in by various members of the media, and former Heisman Winners. Those finalists included Aiden Hutchinson, CJ Stroud, Kenny Pickett, and Winner Bryce Young. The 2020 Heisman Trophy Winner, Devonta Smith, wide receiver and teammate of Bryce Young, graduated at the end of the previous season and entered the 2021 NFL Draft, where he was selected 10th overall to the Philadelphia Eagles. 2021 Heisman Trophy Winner Bryce YoungBryce Young came to the University of Alabama as the #1 high school quarterback in 2020. For the season, he saw relief duty to starter and 2020 Heisman finalist, Mac Jones. Young would see modest playing time in seven of Alabama’s thirteen games. Young completed 13 of his 22 passes for 156 yards and 1 touchdown. Most of his playing time was in clock management situations where he would hand the ball off to a running back to keep the clock moving, ensuring the victory. [1] Entering the 2021 season, Bryce Young was the unchallenged starter for the Crimson Tide. He set many Alabama records, including the single game passing record with 559 yards which came against Arkansas, the season record which totaled 4,872 yards, and season touchdown passes with 47. Young would lead Alabama to the National Championship Game where they ultimately lost to Georgia. As a follow up, the 2021 Heisman Winner, returned as the starting quarterback for the Alabama Crimson Tide football team in 2022. He had another solid year leading Alabama to an 11-2 record including a 45-20 Sugar Bowl victory over Big12 Champion Kansas State. For the season, Young completed 245 of 380 passes for 3,328 yards with 32 touchdowns to 5 interceptions. Bryce Young missed playing time due to an injury in the middle of the season, including parts of the Texas A&M game and all of the Arkansas game. 2021 Heisman Trophy Winner Bryce Young’s SeasonBryce Young and the Alabama Crimson Tide football team began 2021 with a non-conference win over the Miami Hurricanes in Atlanta’s Mercedez-Benz Stadium. Following up with four more wins against Mercer, Florida, Southern Miss, and Ole Miss. Then on October 9th, the lone loss of the regular season, a 41-38 shocker at Texas A&M. Bryce Young would lead Alabama to a rebound win against Mississippi State and then close out the season with wins against Tennessee, LSU, New Mexico State, Arkansas, and Auburn. Young and Alabama would make it to the SEC Championship Game against the #1 Georgia Bulldogs for a spot in the College Football Playoffs. Alabama would win the game 41-24, with Young compiling 26/44 passes for 421 yards and 3 TD's while earning MVP honors for the game. After winning the SEC Championship, Alabama earned the top spot in the College Football Playoffs, where they would beat #4 Cincinnati 27-6, earning the team a berth in the College Football National Championship Game in a rematch against Georgia who had beat Michigan 33-11 in the Orange Bowl. Georgia would avenge the SEC Championship loss and win the National Championship beating Young and Alabama 33-18. In addition to being the 2021 Heisman Trophy Winner, Bryce Young also won the Associated Press Player of the Year Award, the Davey O’Brien Award, the Manning Award, the Maxwell Award, SEC Player of the Year, and was voted a consensus All-American. Following his 2022 college football campaign with the Alabama Crimson Tide football team, Young decided to forgo his senior season to enter the 2023 NFL Draft.
